Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is also called labia reduction surgery or vaginal lip reduction and is a type of vaginal rejuvenation that reduces the appearance of excessive labia tissue of the female genitalia. Pregnancy and genetic makeup can sometimes cause excessive tissue to form. This excess tissue can cause aesthetic issues that are harmful to self-confidence, but it can also lead to performance issues, including difficulty with sexual intercourse, in some cases. Most often, a labia reduction surgery will involve the removal of excess tissue in the inner vaginal lips (labia minora.)

Procedure

Labia reduction surgery usually takes less than 1 hour. The procedure will be performed under IV sedation and local anesthesia. Depending upon the nature and degree of the labia resizing and reshaping required, small incisions will be made in the labia minora to allow for careful shaping and contouring.

Results and Recovery

Following your labiaplasty, you can expect to experience mild discomfort and swelling of the labia tissues and surrounding areas. These symptoms will generally last for 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. We recommend avoiding sex and exercise for 4 weeks after your procedure. The small scars that are created during a labia reduction are generally almost unnoticeable, but they will also reduce in appearance over time. In the majority of cases, labiaplasty does not result in the loss of sensation in the area. The final results of your labiaplasty may take 3 to 6 months to appear fully.
