Nose Job Revision
Conveniently located to serve the areas of New Bern, NC
Rhinoplasty procedures, also commonly called “nose jobs”, that have been performed by an unskilled or less-than-qualified plastic surgeon can cause more problems than they solve. Many times, patients of such surgeons experience breathing problems following their cosmetic nose surgery.
They may also have nasal asymmetry and an artificial, “operated-on” appearance. Secondary (revision) rhinoplasty performed in the Eastern North Carolina area by Dr. John Zannis can greatly improve unsatisfactory results and restore a natural look to the nose.
Dr. Zannis has spent much of his career to date perfecting the techniques used to correct nose problems caused by inexperienced or unskilled rhinoplasty doctors. As one of our region’s premier rhinoplasty specialists, Dr. Zannis takes pride in the artistic challenge of correcting unsatisfactory cosmetic nose surgeries.
Ideal Candidate
A second rhinoplasty is performed to correct problems that persist or develop after a previous rhinoplasty procedure. At times, the problems are minor and can be easily corrected, but major problems can actually require more expertise and skill than is necessary to perform primary rhinoplasty.
This is because the normal anatomy is no longer intact, and the tissue planes present before the first surgery are now filled with scar tissue, making it difficult to reposition the remaining cartilage and bone.
Using advanced techniques perfected over years of study, Dr. Zannis can significantly, and sometimes dramatically, improve the appearance and function of a patient’s nose.
All of this means that almost anyone who has undergone a primary rhinoplasty procedure will be a viable candidate for a second rhinoplasty from Dr. Zannis. If you’re dissatisfied enough with the results of your initial procedure to seek a revision, get in touch with us today to see if you’ll be a good candidate.
In rare cases, the presence of too much scar tissue will simply make noticeable revisions too difficult to justify, but these represent a very small percentage of the cases we see.
Surgery & Recovery
Using the most advanced secondary rhinoplasty techniques, Dr. Zannis strives to produce noses that appear natural, function properly, and are in balance and harmony with other facial features.
To accomplish this, it is necessary to reshape the supporting cartilage and bone and redrape the skin over the reconstructed nasal structure to give the nose its new shape.
Following a secondary rhinoplasty, recovery usually takes no longer than the healing time for the first rhinoplasty. As with primary rhinoplasty, at first, some bruising and swelling will be evident following the procedure, but within a few weeks, there will be little outward indication that any surgery took place.
Just as you would have experienced with your first cosmetic nose surgery, you may notice changes for the first 6 to 8 weeks after your corrective procedure, with further refinement occurring for up to 6 to 12 months following the surgery.
The patient’s wishes for the appearance of the nose are always considered, but often, limiting factors such as skin texture and thickness, the amount of scar tissue from the previous surgery, and facial proportions affect the outcome.
Each of these factors plays an important role in what can be achieved through revision rhinoplasty.
