Though accidents do happen, it doesn’t mean you should have to live with scars forever if you don’t want to. At Zannis Plastic Surgery, we have seen so many patients over the years who are ready to treat their scars and restore the former appearance of their skin. Whether you think your scar may be too dark, red, or thick for us to treat, we have several options to choose from that will get you the best results possible.
Overall, there are four different types of scar removal techniques that we use to treat our patients’ scars:
- Laser Scar Resurfacing – During this procedure, we will use a high-tech medical laser that allows us to remove the outer layer of skin by the scar safely. Not only does this remove the damaged skin around your scar, it also helps to create a smoother, more natural appearance in the weeks and months following the procedure.
- Dermabrasion – Dermabrasion is essentially an exfoliation method of removing scars. It is important to note that this method can result in longer healing times, however, it is highly-effective. During your procedure, we will use a fast-rotating surgical tool on the scar that loosens the top layer of your skin around the area and allows it to be more easily removed.
- Microneedling – Often referred to as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a non-surgical treatment that utilizes tiny micro-needles. During the procedure, the micro-needles make contact with the skin to create microscopic channels that help promote collagen production in your body. Over time, the collagen will allow for new tissue to form that will repair scarring and hyperpigmentation around the area.
- Surgical Excision/Revision – During an excision procedure, Dr. Zannis will carefully remove scar tissue through surgical means as a way to reduce the appearance of the scar.
Whether a bad fall as a child left you with scarring on your knees or skin irritation from acne resulted in facial scarring, we at the Zannis Center for Plastic Surgery are here to help. If you’re tired of living with scars that make you feel uncomfortable or insecure, one of our methods for scar removal may be perfect for what you need.
